ENGL 3090: Exposition
Stylistic Analysis of a Previous Essay
The goal of 3090 was to both enrich our critical thinking skills and produce nonfiction, informational compositions. In Dr. Hocks’ Exposition course, I had the privilege of reassessing some of my work from the time before I was in the concentration. She intended it to be both an exercise in the modes of persuasion, as well as a reflection on our own styles and methods. Thinking critically about my style and techniques exposed gaps in my previous understanding of rhetorical means and genres. While the stylistic analysis reflects a clear understanding of the modes of persuasion and the rhetorical situation, the original essay struggles to remain balanced and unbiased.
This Artifact displays my skills in self-critique. It is a example of how much more intentional of a writer I am, and it serves as the model for each of the steps of the five canons of rhetoric.
